Brookfield Wealth Solutions holds $35 billion in liquid assets for policyholder obligations, one of the insurance sector's strongest liquidity positions globally. The capital cushion exceeds regulatory requirements as firms across North America and Europe restructure legacy portfolios.

MetLife is selling legacy variable annuities to Talcott Resolution Life, the latest North American portfolio rationalization. Variable annuities face capital charges making them economically unattractive versus newer products, accelerating exits across Atlantic markets.

Finland's OP Pohjola reported €2.269 billion operating profit for 2025 but projects lower 2026 figures due to transformation costs. The insurer is establishing quantum computing and AI research units, the sector's most aggressive technology bet though commercial applications remain years away.

Technology investments target underwriting automation, claims processing efficiency, and customer acquisition across markets. European insurers integrate ESG frameworks into risk management, with OP Pohjola committing to corrective actions for operations causing adverse human rights impacts.

Loews Corporation's book value per share rose 8.7% to $95.89 by December 31, 2025, from $88.18 a year earlier. The gain reflects portfolio repositioning and improved investment returns across insurance subsidiaries.

Community Bank System projects mid-to-high single-digit growth in employee benefit services for 2026, with pretax tangible returns hitting 61% in Q4 2025. The firm's insurance segment posted 42% operating income growth despite 8% revenue gains, demonstrating margin expansion through efficiency measures.

Operating noninterest revenue comprised 38% of Community Bank System's Q4 2025 total operating revenues. The diversification beyond traditional insurance products mirrors global industry trends toward fee-based income streams.

The sector faces competing pressures: maintaining regulatory capital while funding technology investments. Firms exit low-margin legacy products to free resources for higher-return business lines and digital distribution channels.
