Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed the Norwegian Dawn will begin its second season from Jacksonville, Florida on November 19, 2027, operating Caribbean itineraries from JAXPORT on Florida's Atlantic coast.
The 294-meter vessel accommodates 2,340 passengers across 11 decks and has served Norwegian's fleet since 2002. Jacksonville sits 32 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Johns River, reducing transit times to open water compared to Gulf of Mexico ports.
The November start aligns with the end of Atlantic hurricane season on November 30, when cruise traffic to Mexican Caribbean destinations, Puerto Rico, and the Lesser Antilles peaks during Northern Hemisphere winter months. Norwegian transported 2.8 million passengers globally in 2023 across its 19-ship fleet, according to Cruise Lines International Association data.
JAXPORT has committed $100 million to cruise terminal improvements since 2019 as it competes with Miami, Port Canaveral, and Fort Lauderdale for Florida's Atlantic cruise market. The port offers direct access to Interstate 95, the coastal highway connecting Maine to Miami along the eastern United States.
Jacksonville represents a secondary cruise hub in Florida's competitive market, where major ports handle millions of passengers annually. Miami-based Norwegian operates routes throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Northern Europe from homeports across the Americas and Europe.
The cruise industry has expanded operations from alternative Florida ports to accommodate growing demand and avoid congestion at traditional hubs. Jacksonville's riverine approach requires navigation time but provides access to northeastern Florida's population centers and interstate connections to Georgia and the Carolinas.
