“3D Printing Could Transform Manufacturing of Vehicles”, Says Philipp Von Hagen, Porsche’s Investment Head

LISBON, Portugal (ViaNews) – We met with Philipp von Hagen in November 2017 for an interview at the Lisbon’s Web Summit to understand more about Porsche’s goals.

Mr. Philipp von Hagen has been a Member of the Executive Board at the holding company, Porsche SE, since 2012, where he’s responsible for investment management. Mr. von Hagen is also a Director of INRIX, Inc. He holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) and an M.Phil. from the University of Oxford.

Porsche SE holds the majority of the ordinary shares in the Volkswagen Group, one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers and the largest in Europe. The Volkswagen Group manages 12 brands including Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Ducati, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen, MAN, and Scania.

Miguel Salvado: How are you finding the Web Summit so far?
Philipp von Hagen: The Web Summit is a fantastic event. It’s a great technology conference to have in Europe. A lot of inspiring people, great startups, as well as established companies, coming together in a phenomenal place.

What about Lisbon, how are you finding the city so far?
Lisbon is a great host and Portugal is a great country. It’s a fantastic location to host the Web Summit.

Tell us about Porsche SE, what are you guys doing at the Web Summit?
We’re really looking for new ideas. As Porsche SE, we have a large share of the VW group and as such we’re very interested in the future mobility ecosystem and the future of the industry. We’re constantly looking for new enabling technologies to transform our ecosystem and we’re investing in those technologies. With a bit of luck, we’ll find one or another investment.

What new technologies are we talking about?
Enabling technologies that will make mobility more accessible. On the industrial side, 3D printing could transform the manufacturing of vehicles.

What about today, what are you planning on doing for this last day of the Web Summit?
I just come from a meeting with Al Gore, we talked about the sustainable mobility of the future, it was very exciting bringing people together from different backgrounds and solving some real-world problems and follow up for other meetings for the next couple of days.
